Radio Noordzee hitlijsten en presentatoren

Hallo,

I don't have all of the answers, but, as Vincent says, I made notes of what happened on RNI and wrote down the presenters of the chart shows when I could.

The Super Hit 50 was first broadcast on Sunday 21 February 1971. At that time the Dutch service had not started and the first show was from 15.00 to 18.00 presented by Tony Allan. I will deal with the broadcasts of the Super Hit 50 on the International service in a separate post, probably tomorrow when I have had the opportunity to go through my records. On the Dutch service, the first chart (known on the Dutch service as the Super Top 50) was broadcast from 12.00 to 15.00 on Saturday 6 March 1971. The broadcast time of the Super Top 50 show was 12.00 on Saturday afternoon throughout the period that it existed (from 6 March 1971 to 24 August 1974) and for most of that time the programme lasted three hours and finished at 15.00. The exceptions were 23 and 30 June 1973, just after the start of the "Hou'm in de lucht" campaign, when the programme extended beyond 15.00 as a result of the time taken up by the campaign during the regular broadcast hours, and in the summer of 1974 (I don't know exactly when this started) when the programme became four hours long (from 12.00 to 16.00), but was interrupted at 13.00 for an edition of "Prijsbewust" with Tony Berk.

The regular presenters of the Super Top 50 show were Joost de Draaier from 6 March 1971 to 11 March 1972 and Ferry Maat from 18 March 1972 to 24 August 1974, but there were exceptions.

Jan Van Veen presented the show on 10 April, 24 April, 12 June and 19 June 1971. In the period 29 July to 8 August 1971 I was on holiday in Lugano with only a medium wave radio and RNI's transmissions did not penetrate the Alps, but when I returned home Joost de Draaier was in Japan on tour with Shocking Blue, so there is a good chance that the Top 50 show on 7 August 1971 (and possibly also 31 July 1971) was presented by somebody other than Joost.

Ferry Maat presented the show on 26 February 1972 and then took over as full time presenter on 18 March 1972. I don't unfortunately, have a note of who presented the show on 13 May 1972 (that is one of the weeks that I have missing) and it may well have been Hans ten Hooge as you say, but Ferry certainly presented the show on 20 May 1972.

After that, Ferry Maat was on holiday in early September 1972 and the Top 50 show was presented by Peter Holland on 2 September 1972 and by Nico Steenbergen on 9 September 1972.

The next one not presented by Ferry was 24 February 1973, when the programme was presented by Leo van der Goot live from the Mebo 2. The Mebo 2 had, of course, broken its anchor chain and drifted a couple of days earlier and I think the tape had not arrived from land as a result, hence Leo sat in.

As mentioned earlier, the programmes on 23 and 30 June 1973 were longer than three hours and were presented initially by Ferry Maat and then, after 15.00, Tony Berk finished them. Ferry Maat was then on holiday at the end of September and beginning of October 1973, so the Top 50 programme was presented by Tony Berk on 22 and 29 September and 6 October 1973.

The next time that the programme was not presented by Ferry was 15 December 1973, which was because the tapes had not arrived on board. Gerard Smit presented the programme on that day live from the Mebo 2.

Ferry was again on holiday in May 1974 and the shows on 11 and 18 May 1974 were presented by Dick de Graaf.

I will post details of the Super Hit 50 shows on the International service and the Playlist/Troef 20 programmes on the Dutch service once I have researched my notes, hopefully tomorrow.

Regards

Michael

Michael,

Thank you for so much detailed information. I did not make so much notes. On the printed charts the TROEF 20 sometimes had a few mistakes. I only wrote those details on my sheets.

The annual Top 100 was broadcasted on second Christmas day in 1971 and 1973. Do you know on what day in 1972?

In 1971 we had 12.00 - 13.00 Tony Berk, 13.00 - 15.00 Ferry Maat and 15.00 - 18.00 "live" Nico Steenbergen.

In 1973 we had 12.00 - 14.00 Tony Berk, 14.00 - 16.00 Ferry Maat and 16.00 - 18.00 Leo van der Goot.

I have published Top 100 sheets of 1972 and 1973 and I'm still looking for the 1971 Top 100. I know all the details of those broadcasted charts and still hope to find a printed chart.

Regards,

Hans

Vincent,

Groeten,

Hans

Hans

On the International service the Super Hit 50 was broadcast on Sunday between 15.00 and 18.00 between 21 February 1971 and August 1971. i am not sure whether the final time was 1 August or 8 August, as I was in Switzerland and unable to listen, but certainly on 15 August there was a special programme where Tony Allan played the top hits from the Super Hit 50 over the past six months. After 15 August 1971 the International service had its own chart, initially a British Top 20, but then, from February 1972, the International Prediction Hit 40, an example of which, from 20 May 1972, Vincent uploaded yesterday (for which many thanks Vincent). The presenters of the Super Hit 50 show on the International service are listed on Vincent's website.

As for the kanskaarten and Troef 20, at the start of the Dutch service on 6 March 1971, there was a programme from 15.00 to 16.00, immediately following the Super Top 50 show on Saturday, called "Toekomstmuziek" in which the DJ hitpicks, smash plays and LP of the week were introduced for the coming week. There were two smash plays initially, reducing to one early in 1972. Toekomstmuziek was usually presented by Joost de Draaier, but sometimes by a different DJ, such as Jan Van Veen, in the early days. Toekomstmuziek was followed at 16.00 on Saturday by a Muziek Parade programme, which included an LP Top 10 for a time in the second half of 1971. This was presented by Peter Holland between 21 August and 25 September 1971 and by Tony Berk between 2 October and 30 October 1971, after which the LP Top 10 was dropped.

After Joost de Draaier left RNI in March 1972, Toekomstmuziek was presented by Tony Berk. In the autumn of 1972, the RNI Playlist was introduced. I don't know exactly when; the first time my notes make reference to it is on Sunday 29 October 1972, when Tony Berk played records from the Playlist on his programme between 12.00 and 13.00. Soon after this, Tony's Sunday programme between 11.00 and 13.00 became the Playlist show and this continued until the final Playlist on 8 April 1973.

The Troef 20 was first introduced on Sunday 15 April 1973 and the first programme was presented by Leo van der Goot. From the following week, the Troef 20 became part of Driemaster on Saturday, starting at 17.00 and finishing at 18.20 or so. At the time, Driemaster was broadcast live from the Mebo 2 and was presented on alternate weeks by Leo van der Goot and Dick de Graaf. The presenter of the Troef 20 therefore depended on who was presenting Driemaster and the list from 21 April 1973 onwards is:

21 April 1973 - Dick de Graaf

28 April 1973 - Leo van der Goot

5 May 1973 - Dick de Graaf

12 May 1973 - Leo van der Goot

19 May 1973 - Dick de Graaf

26 May 1973 - Leo van der Goot

2 June 1973 - Dick de Graaf

9 June 1973 - Leo van der Goot

16 June 1973 - Dick de Graaf

23 June 1973 - Leo van der Goot

30 June 1973 - Dick de Graaf

7 July 1973 - Dick de Graaf

14 July 1973 - Dick de Graaf

21 July 1973 - Leo van der Goot

28 July 1973 - Dick de Graaf

4 August 1973 - Hans ten Hooge

11 August 1973 - Dick de Graaf

18 August 1973 - Leo van der Goot

25 August 1973 - Leo van der Goot

For some reason there was no broadcast of the Troef 20 on 1 September 1973, but it returned the following week:

8 September 1973 - Dick de Graaf

15 September 1973 - Leo van der Goot

22 September 1973 - Dick de Graaf

29 September 1973 - Leo van der Goot

6 October 1973 - Dick de Graaf

13 October 1973 - Leo van der Goot

20 October 1973 - Dick de Graaf

Around this time Driemaster stopped being presented live from the Mebo 2 and started being taped in Holland. Leo van der Goot was the regular presenter and he presented the Troef 20 every Saturday from 27 October 1973 to 2 February 1974. After that, the list of presenters was:

9 February 1974 - Gerard Smit

16 February 1974 - Hans ten Hooge

23 February, 2 and 9 March 1974 - Leo van der Goot

16 March 1974 - Hans ten Hooge

23 March, 30 March and 6 April 1974 - Leo van der Goot

13 April 1974 - Marc van Amstel

20 April 1974 - Dick de Graaf

27 April 1974 - Marc van Amstel

4 May 1974 - Erik Post

11, 18 and 25 May 1974 - Leo van der Goot

1 and 8 June 1974 - Marc van Amstel

15 June 1974 - Gerard Smit

22 and 29 June and 6 and 13 July 1974 - Marc van Amstel

20 July 1974 - Erik Post

27 July 1974 - Marc van Amstel

3 August 1974 - Erik Post

10 August 1974 - Herman de Bruin

17 August 1974 - Gerard Smit

24 August 1974 - Gerard Reitsma

The Top 100 of 1972 was broadcast on 26 December 1972 from 12.00 to 18.00 and the DJs were:

12.00 Peter Holland

13.00 Nico Steenbergen

14.00 Leo van der Goot

15.00 Alfred Lagarde

16.00 Tony Berk

17.00 Ferry Maat

Douwe

Twee afwijkende zijn dus bevestigd. Kan je van 13-05-1972 aangeven wie hem presenteerde? Mogelijk Hans ten Hooge?

Mike,

Again thanks for all the details on the programs. It's nice to see so much response on a chapter that ended 38 years ago.

The Playlist starts on Sunday 3 September 1972 and it stopped on 8 April 1973. The list without positions contained normally 30 singles. There were 4 weeks with 29 singles and 2 weeks with only 28 singles. I just checked it in my Radio Noordzee Research. I will mail a scan of the Top 100 1972 to Vincent and ask him to publish it.

Regards,

Hans

A question for Mike about the Peter Holland-edition of 2 september 1972.

Peter once presented an editon of the hitparade on VARA-radio on Hilversum III in the eigties, 'The Verrukkelijke 15'. Het sort of made a joke-show of it, pretending he didn't know how to host a hitparade. He invited almost every known hitparade presenter in the studio, telling him 'the tricks'.

het told that the only time before he did a hitparade was in 1972 (so his memory was correct).

But he also told that he played the records in the wrong (or right) order, starting with number 1: 'I couldn't stand te tension'.

Mike, do you remember or know if that story is right?

Edwin

Edwin

From my recollection Peter didn't play the records in the wrong order, but I do remember that he completely misjudged the timing of the programme and so had to rush through the records at the end of the Top 50 in order to fit them all in by the end of the show at 15.00. Timing a hitparade programme right was something that Ferry Maat was very good at doing (which was even more of a test when he had to fit 40 records into two hours on the TROS from 1974 to 1976), but it clearly wasn't one of Peter's strong points, although he was a good DJ in many other respects).
