The sinking of the Mi Amigo on 20 March 1980 marked a dramatic low point in the long and turbulent history of Radio Caroline. Yet, as so often in offshore radio history, the loss of one ship immediately sparked new ambitions. Within weeks, a small group of people associated with Caroline began planning a fresh station of their own. Paul Graham, Stuart Russel (Nigel Harris), Richard Thompson (Bob Lawrence) and Peter Moore are said to have been directly or indirectly involved in the planning. The project was given a suitably optimistic name: Radio Phoenix.

In het boek van Peter Moore, Butterfly upon a wheel, redelijk uitgebreid behandeld. Het kwam niet van de grond, dit getoonde schip werd dacht ik door Greenpeace gekocht. Als zendschip zou het ook aan de kleine kant zijn geweest.

Is inderdaad bij Greenpeace terecht gekomen. Wat betreft afmetingen was ze 39, 59 meter lang en 7,92 meter breed. Dat is niet zoveel kleiner als de Norderney.

Nog een spot van de Cedarlea in Greenpeace livrei die overigens een ietwat beter beeld geeft van de afmetingen van het schip. Ik heb trouwens nog even gekeken naar vergelijkbare schepen, de Jeanine was iets kleiner 38,29 lang en 7,05 breed.

Mooi verhaal, had er nog niet eerder van gehoord. Veel idealisme maar weinig nautische kennis laat veel zeezenderprojecten stranden.
