  1. Here is the switch from regular programming to the retune message, which happened at about 1036 local time: https://pixeldrain.com/u/AHkQrCUY Andy
  2. I will try. The shutdown is confirmed for 1030am local time, so the signal may be too weak here to hear much. I've not heard any closedown warning message so far, and the 1341 medium wave is still in the top of the hour ident. The full list of BBC AM services being closed down over the next few weeks is at the link below. The other transmitters are all much lower powered, and include BBC Essex and Cambridgeshire. https://www.bbc.co.uk/reception/work-warning/news/mw-closures-2021 Andy
  3. In case anyone is interested, I made a couple of short recordings of BBC Radio Ulster from 1341kHz this evening, recorded in Glasgow, Scotland. The AM service is to be shut down on 6 May, but "1341 medium wave" still features in the top of the hour ident. First around 9pm, shortly before sunset: https://pixeldrain.com/u/8xoPP5MG Then an hour later, after dark: https://pixeldrain.com/u/fnuuEUPt Regards, Andy
  4. Further to the discussion about the record by Nancy Peppers, played by Kevin Turner, that was not available digitally, a vinyl rip can be heard at https://pixeldra.in/u/uZKjrSmK Andy
  5. Just to note that Northsound 2 no longer uses 1035kHz AM due to the transmitter site having been sold to a housing developer. It is now DAB and online only.
  6. Some of the 1988/89 recordings on DX Archives were made from shortwave, regular Caroline programmes rather than WMR. http://www.dxarchive.com/downloads_offshore.html
  7. There are various recordings from this Liverpool RSL over at the Pirate Archive. https://www.thepiratearchive.net/northwest-misc-stations/
  8. Radio Caroline North recorded off-air 1368kHz in Glasgow (sky-wave) 2336-0114, 14/15 August 2017 - https://pixeldra.in/u/9Q42ap
  9. There are lots of John Peel shows for download over at http://theperfumedgarden.blogspot.co.uk/ The earliest is a reconstruction of a Radio London programme from 6th August 1967, the rest from BBC, BFBS, etc, 1967-2004. Andy
  10. OK, so after a bit of Googling I have found: Nancy Peppers, a young C&W singer from Coatbridge (1978) Nancy Peppers also sang backing vocals for Culture Club (1984) "Nancy Peppers, a Scottish singer who has worked with Culture Club, Soft Cell and Marc Almond" (1989) linking the two. And regarding Marc Almond, "A murky but still effective take on Almond's solo debut single, "Sleaze," closes out the album, while the sassy "Muleskinner Blues," an effective duet with Nancy Peppers, and the tale of crime and a worried mom, "Switchblade Operator," are also joys." 11. I think some of these unusual or unfamiliar tunes were paid for promotions, such as the Laser Spotlight songs. Maybe they just didn't make the Radio 1 playlist and so didn't become hits. Who knows! Another song from slightly later in the eighties I tracked down after hearing on one of these recordings is Laynie's "Love Bites". Thanks to everyone for posting all these interesting recordings. Andy
  12. Not a recording, but there's some info on Nancy Peppers' song at https://www.discogs.com/Nancy-Peppers-First-Night/release/8823946 There's also a version by Alternative Radio (Rob Fennah's band), on Youtube Andy
  13. Caroline 576 in those days!
  14. Robert Reid is shown as dying on 17 December 1993 on https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Robert_Reid_(railwayman) The 1FM idents are from BBC Radio 1, which rebranded as 1FM for a while. There's also some brief clips of DJs Steve Wright and Simon Mayo talking.
