    Russ Conway – Alley Cat. Hij werd geboren als Trevor Herbert Stanford en werd in 1955, pianospelend in een pub, ontdekt door iemand van de platenmaatschappij Columbia. Als Russ Conway had hij alleen al 20 hits in de Britse hitlijst tussen 1957 n 1963. Daar hoorde Alley Cat echter niet bij. De uitvoering van Bent Fabric op piano ging hem voor, terwijl Peggy Lee een prachtige vocale uitvoering zong. Maar ‘Alley Cat’ van Russ Conway werd gebruikt als eindtune van het programma ‘Mosterd na de Maaltijd’ met Michelle op Radio Mi Amigo in 1975. Russ Conway - Alley Cat. Born Trevor Herbert Stanford, he was discovered in 1955, playing the piano in a pub, by someone from the record company Columbia. As Russ Conway he had 20 hits in the British charts alone between 1957 and 1963. Alley Cat, however, was not one of them. The performance of Bent Fabric on piano preceded him, while Peggy Lee sang a beautiful vocal performance.     Van McCoy and the Soul City Symphony – The hustle. Een prachtige disco song gecomponeerd door Van McCoy en uitgebracht in april 1975. Van McCoy heeft in zijn korte leven op meer dan 700 songs meegespeeld, gezongen of deze songs gecomponeerd dan wel geproduceerd. Een hartaanval maakte al in 1979 een einde aan zijn leven op de leeftijd van slechts 39 jaar. The hustle werd in 1975 door Michelle op Radio Mi Amigo gebruikt als eindtune voor het programma ‘Koffie met of zonder’. Van McCoy and the Soul City Symphony - The hustle. A beautiful disco song composed by Van McCoy and released in April 1975. In his short life Van McCoy has played, sung or composed or produced more than 700 songs. A heart attack put an end to his life in 1979 at the age of only 39.     In de maand augustus besteden we op NH in onze serie Honderd Jaar Radio 4 weken aandacht aan de zeezenders. Het meest afgegraasde deel van de radiogeschiedenis. We hebben het gemaakt in de wetenschap dat veel luisteraars de geschiedenis al goed kennen. Om die reden hebben we gezocht naar fragmenten die je niet vaak hoort. Geen Laatste Uur, ook verder zo min mogelijk 'usual suspects' en waar mogelijk middengolf in plaats van de bij verzamelaars bekende studiobanden. In de eerste aflevering wel vooral veel studiobanden, omdat er nog weinig van de radio werd opgenomen. Het studiomateriaal komt zoals gemeld uit mijn eigen archief, het was sympathiek geweest als ik even om toestemming had gevraagd. Deze 'dispensatie' heeft Juul - gelukkig maar - in tweede instantie alsnog verleend. Plezier ermee.

Dit nummer wordt al uitgebreid benoemd in de zeezenderdiscografie maar kan worden aangevuld: Het was in 1978 dat er een promotiespot was te beluisteren op Mi Amigo 319 voor het programma ‘Gouden van Dagen. De hits van gisteren, Ferry Eden draait ze etc.’ Ten bate van deze spot werd ook een stukje van Fusse dans le ciel gebruikt. Jean Jacques Perrey - Fusse dans le ciel. Eén van de meest gekke platen uit de jaren vijftig van de vorige eeuw die begint alsof er een circusoptreden gaat plaats vinden: "Ladies and gentlemen, this circus now has the honour of presenting to you the unique and world famous attraction Don Charles Singing dogs." Dezelfde zin tot en met het woord "attraction," uit het nummer ‘We’re going to the circus’, gevolgd door een naamjingle, werd op Radio Atlantis en Radio Mi Amigo door Joop Verhoof gebruikt aan het begin van zijn programma. En dan was er van de blaffende honden ook nog eens hun versie van ‘Happy Birthday’. Peter van Dam gebruikte het op Radio Mi Amigo voor de productie van een commercial voor Dierenpension St. Bernhard. Het nummer werd op RNI door Alan West gebruikt wanneer hij in zijn programma weer iemand ging feliciteren. En het was Tony Allan op RNI die het zo’n mooie jingle vond ter promotie van Alan West dat hij, Tony, spontaan begon mee te blaffen. One of the most crazy records from the fifties of the last century that starts as if a circus performance is about to take place: "Ladies and gentlemen, this circus now has the honour of presenting to you the unique and world famous attraction Don Charles Singing dogs." The same sentence up to and including the word "attraction," from the song 'We're going to the circus', followed by a name jingle, was used on Radio Atlantis and Radio Mi Amigo by Joop Verhoof at the beginning of his programme. Een blok van 7 uur aan programma’s dat om 11 uur in de ochtend al begon met de ‘Top 50’, gevolgd door de ‘Flashbackshow’, ‘de Nederlandstalige Top 10’ en afsluitend het onderdeel ‘Alles Nieuw’. This song was used as a filler by Ferry Eden on Radio Monique but also in 1978 as a tune for the Saturday afternoon marathon on Radio Mi Amigo. A block of 7 hours of programmes that started at 11 o'clock in the morning with the 'Top 50', followed by the 'Flashback show', 'the Dutch Top 10' and finally the part 'Everything New'.
