Beck was eerder bekend als achtergrondzangeres voor bijvoorbeeld Melissa Manchester, Cher, Leo Sayer en Chaka Kan. Maar ook was ze actief als jingle zangeres voor Jam Creative Productions. Op Tweede Kerstdag bracht Caroline 558 een overzicht van de populairste platen van 1988 in presentatie van Steve Conway en hij gebruikte de instrumentale achterkant van ‘The first time’ als tune voor dit programma.
