In case anyone is interested, I made a couple of short recordings of BBC Radio Ulster from 1341kHz this evening, recorded in Glasgow, Scotland. The AM service is to be shut down on 6 May, but "1341 medium wave" still features in the top of the hour ident.

First around 9pm, shortly before sunset:

No offence but that sounds like music to my ears since Radio Ulster interferes with my 1332 kHz transmitter at night.

Yes, if you'd be so kind as to make a recording of the actual close down we'd be more than happy.

De Spaanse zenders op 1341 kHz zijn het grotere probleem, zij zijn nog breder dan de BBC qua modulatie.

 

 

We gaan het zien/horen...

Denk dat het wel meevalt, 2x 10 kW en 1x 5 kW.

Ulster zit met 162 kW 800 km hier vandaan en Spanje ligt wat verder weg.

De 10kW is van toepassing bij veel van de Spaanse middengolfzenders en zodra het donker wordt komen ze hier behoorlijk hard door. Dus Helmut heeft best wel een punt. Maar het is zoals je zegt: we gaan het zien/horen.

I will try. The shutdown is confirmed for 1030am local time, so the signal may be too weak here to hear much. I've not heard any closedown warning message so far, and the 1341 medium wave is still in the top of the hour ident.

 

The full list of BBC AM services being closed down over the next few weeks is at the link below. The other transmitters are all much lower powered, and include BBC Essex and Cambridgeshire.
