Geplaatst 8 november 20223 jr. RNI Graham Gill Show 261073 0052-0244 (Scoped) 9 november 20223 jr. bewerkt door Ben

RNI Graham Gill Show 251073 0052-0244 (Scoped) Hi Ben, This is a great recording of Graham Gill on RNI and one I have had in my collection for many years. I have the date as 2nd November 1973, but I am not sure of that either! I will listen to the recording again. I have tried to work out a date from the news events, but nothing precise. If it was the last night that String Driven Thing was the Smash Play then that would be an early Friday morning as the new Smash Play was revealed in the International Top 30 on a Friday night. I can't find a listing of Its a Game as the Smash Play, but probably end October/start November. This is my copy which goes through until close at 0300. https://www.mediafire.com/file/uszy4fd7o3isdvr/02111973_0052-0300_GrahamGill.mp3/file You mention Colin Lees, was he from Yorkshire? I seem to remember the name. Thanks Ian 9 november 20223 jr. bewerkt door scotty
Geplaatst 9 november 20223 jr. Auteur Populair bericht Hi Ian, Thanks for your posting. The list of smashplays is on Radiopedia : https://radiopedia.nl/wiki/Lijst_van_Smash_Play_in_1973 I met Colin in August 2000 during the Radio London RSL. I think he worked with BT and he lived in Watford, when I was in contact with him. Chris and Mary have devoted an article on their website to Colin after the died in 2013 : https://www.radiolondon.co.uk/rl/summer97/colin/colin.html Colin is also on one of my videos from the London RSL in 2000 : He's on the left when you start the video (and he is the person on the left in the right top picture above)
Geplaatst 9 november 20223 jr. Populair bericht Hi Ben, I am thinking of a different Colin from Leeds. RIP Colin Lees. I now am fairly certain that the date is Friday 26th October 1973. The combination of the String Driven Thing listing and the fact that the Glasgow Fireman strike started on the 26th (Graham refers in the news but says strike starts tomorrow so probably the news script was from Thursday night) has pretty much confirmed for me. I see my old mate Paul Graham in the video.😀 Hope you are well Ben. Ian 9 november 20223 jr. bewerkt door scotty
Geplaatst 9 november 20223 jr. Populair bericht Thanks Ben and Ian for these recordings. The 01:00 AM news, read by Graham Gill, talks about the possible sending of a peacekeeping force to Egypt. This was news that took place in the course of Thursday, October 25, 1973. These (night) recordings are therefore from Friday, October 26, 1973. https://www.delpher.nl/nl/radiobulletins/view?query=Kissinger&facets[periode][]=3|1970-1979|1973|oktober|25|&page=1&cql[]=(date+_gte_+"25-10-1973")&cql[]=(date+_lte_+"02-11-1973")&coll=anp&identifier=anp:1973:10:25:61:mpeg21&resultsidentifier=anp:1973:10:25:61:mpeg21&rowid=7 groet, Hans

I guess that Colin did not record much himself but merely received recordings (airchecks) from others. I also need to go back to the airchecks of Ad Couwenberg, since he recorded a lot himself and there might still be some unique airchecks in his collection. With the winter coming I might start spending more time on audio "stuff".
