Dit weekend gekeken naar een documentaire/programma van Channel 4 uit 2007 over Big L 1395. In dit programma gaat Harvey Goldsmith (o.a. impressario van het Live Aid concert) proberen het in problemen zijnde Big L te helpen met het rendabel maken van het radiostation. Verbazingwekken hoe arrogant een Mike Read maar ook de 2 investeerders van Big L reageren op alle voorstellen van Goldsmith. M'n eerste ervaring met USA radio beleefde ik in Hilversum op m'n zolderkamer in het ouderlijk huis toen ik de FM band afstruinde. Het was AFN - Soesterberg. Het station van de Amerikaanse militairen die op de vliegbasis waren gelegerd. Prachtig was het, eerst wat ruis maar nadat ik een antenne had gemaakt ging het stukken beter. Van die zender "leende" ik de later veel gebruikte jingle "Yesterday". Ik nam 'em op met 4 sporen van een kleine draagbare radio. Wie wat meer over AFN - Soesterberg wil lezen en nog niet geboren was in 1964 kan hier z'n hart ophalen. Uit Radio Bulletin van december 1964. Dat was "mijn" AFN, op 93.1 mHz. Juul
