Comming soon on BBC Radio 2 (May 31 and June 7 at 10 p.m. to 11 p.m.) Noel Edmonds tells the story of the original pop music station in the UK - Radio Luxembourg. It was hugely influential for millions of so-called 'under the bedclothes listeners' who were starved of 60s pop music, but frustrated by the signal, which faded in and out. This month marks the 80th anniversary of the first test transmissions to Britain. A full service started in 1933 and it was 20 years ago that it finally closed down to UK listeners. The story of Radio Luxembourg is the story of pop music radio, but it is also much more. In part one Noel takes listeners back to 19…

Rocking All Over the Years From The Scorpions, to The Spectres and now 50 years on they've reached the Status Quo. Johnnie Walker marks the event by talking to the original "Frantic Four". He journeys back to 1962 where in the second year at Sedgehill Comprehensive School, in Beckenham, Kent, a schoolboy; Francis Rossi, teams up with fellow orchestra member Alan Lancaster to form The Scorpions. A year later they change their name to The Spectres and at rehearsals in the Air Cadets base, Dulwich, South London they recruit drummer John Coghlan. But it wasn't until a meeting at Butlin's in Minehead when Rick Parfitt the final member of the "Frantic Four", was introdu…

"Digby Taylor applied to the Voice of Peace in 1982, and their unpaid recruiting officer (Robbie Owen!) sent him out to the ship in Autumn 1982 where he learned his trade. This marked the start of a career that took Digby to Stoke-on-Trent, Germany, Taunton, Vienna, Nice, The Seychelles, Beirut, Singapore, Dubai and Cyprus. A remarkable journey." Most of the interview is about his time on the Voice of Peace, about a year, before he joined Signal Radio in Stoke on Trent when it launched. Was on both with Doug Wood.

John Sebastian takes a nostalgic journey around Greenwich Village, New York, telling the story of a particularly creative period in modern music history. John was born and raised in Greenwich Village and, while still at school in the early 50s, it became a focal point for a group of writers, poets, artists, and students known as the Beat Generation. Inspired by what he saw and heard around him, John became immersed in the folk and club scene that subsequently blossomed. His skills on guitar and harmonica made him an instrumental component of the folk scene and he worked with Bob Dylan, Judy Collins and Tim Hardin, before forming the The Lovin' Spoonful in 1965 and e…
