De 1e keer dat ik ontdekte dat RNI ook op de korte golf zat, heb ik dit programma gehoord.

Niet dat ik er toen veel van begreep wat de man vertelde hoor.

Nu dacht ik zelf dat het op een zondag morgen was dat ik het gehoord had.

Dit was een dinsdag, komt bij mij de vraag op van op welke dagen was het programma te horen?

10 uur staat mij ook nog wel bij.

Het toestel heb ik nog, maar de hoekmeubel niet meer.

Normaal gesproken werd dit programma inderdaad op zondag uitgezonden, Theo. Maar, omdat het kerst was, werden er die dag meerdere programma's uitgezonden via de korte golf. Rond de vier en een halve minuut van het begin van deel 1 (10-11) legt AJ dat uit (with kind permission of Mr Bollier).

It is most confusing when Helmut logs the timings as 1000-1200 (CET). But AJ always gives the time in GMT. As far as I can recollect , the World Service always gave the time in GMT.

I used to think it possible, with a town in Ireland called Coole after William of Orange conquered James II. I also found out Coole is quite a Common surname in the Rotterdam area.

Yes, I do agree that these recordings from Helmut are truly excellent. These last 3 are totally new to me.

If you had recorded a programme, would you label the timing as GMT or the time that the DJ announces, even when it is a Nederlandse programme. I never did say it was difficult.

I don't believe there are any set rules John. People record timings as what suits their preference. It's easy to tell from the recording the time of the actual broadcast, be it GMT, CET or something else. Not really an issue (for me at least)

A.J.Beirens verwelkomde zijn luisteraars met goede morgen, middag, avond afhankelijk waar ze op de wereldbol naar de kortegolf luisterde. A.J. vertelde ooit in een interview dat hij liefst altijd met de kerstdagen aan boord was. En van zodra ze in Zwitserland wisten dat hij weer enkele dagen aan boord zou zijn, kreeg hij het bericht: "Doe maar alle dagen world service".
