Paul

Mijn buurman gaat verhuizen.

Juke Box Drive Pirate Radio Special with Roger Kent Part One: "Born on the day the Empire Windrush docked in Tilbury, Roger Kent grew up in Holloway London. He trained as an apprentice in Building Services, and enjoyed life playing in bands and enjoying R'n'B, Reggae, and Soul as it moved from London's underground to mainstream music. He became a successful Club Dj working big venues, including the major Mecca Ballrooms. He'd loved the 60's pirates and was delighted when RNI came on-air, and decided that he would one day work on the Mebo 2. It took him 3 years, and after great persistence, he arrived on the Mebo 2 on 14th February 1974 (Valentine's Day). This is his story…

"Martin van der Ven has spent 25 years curating the wonderful website www.OffshoreRadio.DE and it's associated Flickr photographic archive (with more than 25,000 images!) He rarely gives interviews, so this is a unique opportunity to hear from "the quiet anorak". There's music by Earth & Fire, Bolland & Bolland, Raymond Lefevre, New Riders of the Purple Sage, Graham Gill (with Junior Walker) and Apollo 100, plus clips from Radio & TV Noordzee, Caroline, Veronica and RNI."

"Author, Broadcaster and Coach Driver Ray Clark joins us to talk about his latest book "Stay Tuned: I could say something brilliant at any moment". Growing up with pirate radio his burning ambition was to be on the radio. His route to achieving this took many years, but he eventually became the host of the BBC Essex Breakfast Show, on of the most challenging assignments on radio! Great tunes and interesting stories!" Robbie Owen's Jukebox Drive In is broadcasting three weeks of features about Radio 270. First last night was when I was interviewed about it's history from when it was first announced until closedown and the later aborted sale of the Ocean 7 to Radio Caroline when I briefly met Ronan onboard the Ocean 7. My Dad, manager of the National Provincial Bank Whitby, was good friends with one of their directors Tony Rylands. The money their shareholders invested was transferred to two Panamanian companies, one owned the ship, the other the equipment. That was done through his bank. Plenty of jingles, audio, ads, promos and records played by Radio 270 are included. …

"Dave Richards served on the Voice of Peace in 1979-80 at the age of just 17. Then in 1984 he joined Caroline becoming a regular on-air or behind the scenes until 1989. This is his story." "It's 1984 and Dave Richards has arrived on the Ross Revenge. He continues his story. Highs and lows, including the illegal raid by Dutch thugs when they removed most of the broadcast equipment and smashed the rest. "

Live interview with Lyn Gilbert last night on Robbie Owen's Jukebox Drive in on Corby Radio is available on Mixcloud ""Lyn Gilbert joins us to talk about working "Behind the Scenes at Radio Caroline in the 70s". It's a rare insight to how things operated in those "illegal days". Trying to get the movie about The Kennedy's and Martin Luther King off the ground and into cinemas, running errands to the continent to collect funds, supplying the station with new records, and the character of Ronan O'Rahilly are some of the amazing topics we cover. Oh, and of course, The Loving Awareness Band.....Enjoy!" She had difficulties connecting via her computer so the first pa…

Robbie Owen's Juke Box Drive In October 29th: "Hans Knot, world renowned radio historian joins us live from the Netherlands to talk about Radio Veronica, which broadcast from he Dutch coast from 1960 to 1974. Hear about the two shios, the first attempts at English Programming, and Tineke, the first female Dj in Holland. Plus tunes from Golden Earrings, The Cata, Raymond Froggatt, David McWilliams, Kiki Dee, and Buffalo Springfield...oh, and even Robbie Dale!" I listened to Radio Veronica starting in 1962/63 so didn't hear CNBC as Robbie thought. Living 3 miles from Whitby on the North Yorkshire coast could receive it all day due to sea path. I reme…

"Ron O'Quinn started in radio aged 16 and went on to present top-rated shows in Florida, Ohio, and California. He was also the Operations Director of Swinging Radio England and Britain Radio off the British coast in 1966. Hear how he got this job and others, how his Army discipline ensured he was always a complete professional, and the excitement of Dj'ing during the "British Invasion" There's mention of the SRE Song Wheel/Format Clock. Photo of it here, public Facebook post so should be able to be viewed without the need to have an account. [verborgen inhoud]
