Alan Bown Set – Headline News. We kennen het nummer uiteraard ook van Edwin Starr en lange tijd werd gedacht dat die versie werd gebruikt voor een jingle ten bate van de jingle ‘Lex Harding Special’ op Veronica. In deze uitvoering zijn duidelijk de blazers te horen, die ook in de jingle voorkomen. De groep was afkomstig uit Londen en nam dit nummer in  1966 op voor het Pye label.

 

Alan Bown Set - Headline News. We also know the song by Edwin Starr and for a long time it was thought that this version was used for a jingle for the 'Lex Harding Special' jingle on Veronica. In this version you can clearly hear the horns, which also appear in the jingle. The group was from London and recorded this song in 1966 for the Pye label.

En natuurlijk een typisch Radio London plaatje in 1966.

 

Kwam op 31-07-1966 binnen (op nummer 24) in de Bil L Fab 40, samen met Edwin Star.

"Alan Bown was a well-established musician, having played the Star Club, Hamburg, alongside the likes of the Silver Beetles. Alan was to form his 'Set' after leaving the John Barry Seven.

 

The Alan Bown Set had already appeared in the Fab with Headline News, in August '66 and Emergency 999, in November '66.

 

The band went through several line-ups, but the members who joined the Knees Club at the Marquee on April 9th 1966 were Alan Bown (#172), trumpet, Vic Sweeney (#168) drms, John Anthony (#169), sax, Stan Haldane (#170), bs, vcls, Peter Burgess (#171), gtr, Jess Roden (#173), vcls and Jeff Bannister (#192) keyboards, vcls.

 

Later in 1967, as they took a turn away from soul to psychedelia the word 'Set' was dropped from the band name."
