Pirate BBC Essex vanaf 13 augustus 2017

'' Johnnie began his radio career in 1966 on offshore pirate station, Swinging Radio England. He then moved on to Radio Caroline, where he became a household name hosting the hugely popular night-time show. In 1969, he joined BBC Radio 1 and remained there until 1976. He then moved to San Francisco, where he recorded a weekly show broadcast on Radio Luxembourg. Returning to the UK in the 80s, Johnnie presented Radio 1’s Saturday Stereo Sequence. After working on various BBC stations, he left Radio 1 for good in 1995 and three years later he was offered his own weekly show on Radio 2, before taking over Drivetime.'' https://www.mirror.co.uk/3am/cel…

At Home with Keith Richards Ahead of The Rolling Stones' appearance at Glastonbury, another chance to hear Keith Richards talking to Paul Sexton about his incredible life and times in the relaxed surroundings of his own living room.

Comming soon on BBC Radio 2 (May 31 and June 7 at 10 p.m. to 11 p.m.) Noel Edmonds tells the story of the original pop music station in the UK - Radio Luxembourg. It was hugely influential for millions of so-called 'under the bedclothes listeners' who were starved of 60s pop music, but frustrated by the signal, which faded in and out. This month marks the 80th anniversary of the first test transmissions to Britain. A full service started in 1933 and it was 20 years ago that it finally closed down to UK listeners. The story of Radio Luxembourg is the story of pop music radio, but it is also much more. In part one Noel takes listeners back to 19…

LBC launched on October 8th 1973 with Capital following 8 days later. Initial reaction to their arrival was not good with some politicians wanting for instance "to put LBC out of its misery" but on the very last day of the year Radio Clyde launched in Glasgow and was an instant success; Commercial Radio was up and running. Very quickly LBC and Capital were revamped and the impact of commercially funded radio spread across the whole of the UK. Part One looks at the development of ad funded radio aimed at the UK, and the progress to the launch of the first two stations; London's LBC and Capital Radio Part 1: BBC-R2-20131205-2300-0000-Established1973-40YearsOfComme…

In case anyone is interested, I made a couple of short recordings of BBC Radio Ulster from 1341kHz this evening, recorded in Glasgow, Scotland. The AM service is to be shut down on 6 May, but "1341 medium wave" still features in the top of the hour ident. First around 9pm, shortly before sunset: https://pixeldrain.com/u/8xoPP5MG Then an hour later, after dark: https://pixeldrain.com/u/fnuuEUPt Regards, Andy

30 minute documentary in Hour 3 of Robbie Owen's Juke Box Drive on Corby Radio Narrated by Peter Phillips, this is the story of how Radio Caroline found the Ross Revenge, acquired the vessel, and then fitted it out as a radio ship. Lots of detail from Peter Chicago and Charlie Taylor, along with stories from former crew members of the Ross when it was an Icelandic waters trawler. Script by Ray Clark. Followed by some of the songs from Tom Anderson's August 1983 "Musical Journey" which re-opened the station.
